The Region of Tuscany launches a new call to attract foreign investment

Boosting foreign investment in research, development and innovation in Tuscany: this is the aim of the Region of Tuscany’s new EUR 10 million invitation to tender.

The aim is to stimulate the birth or development of their innovative activities in our region in various fields: from artificial intelligence to energy transition, from environmental sustainability to the research and development of new therapies or medical devices, and process and product innovation in various other sectors.

Targeted by the call are medium-large enterprises with foreign capital, i.e. companies in which the foreign investor owns at least 10% of the ordinary shares, in partnership with at least one local SME.

Tuscany is currently one of the most attractive medium-sized European regions for foreign investment, with almost 3,000 local units of multinational companies (6.2% of the national figure) and over 80,000 workers.

The resources come for the first time from EU structural funds of which the call is one of the 3 strategic measures. The projects to be presented at the call for proposals may have a value of between EUR 1.5 and 3 million and a duration of 12 months. The contribution paid out to those eligible for the call will be in the form of capital, with a range between 25 and 80% depending on the type of beneficiary.

Applications can be submitted from September 2024 on the Sviluppo Toscana portal until the available resources are exhausted.

A city accessible to large urban areas

The city of Grosseto lies on the Rome-Livorno road axis and is connected to the large urban areas of Siena and Florence via the E78.

With regard to the Rome-Livorno axis (the so-called Tirrenica), the Italian government has announced that in 2025 work will begin on upgrading and securing one of the territory’s main road axes, with plans to upgrade, among other things, the Grosseto south-San Pietro in Palazzi section and the central section from Ansedonia to Grosseto.

As for the Siena-Grosseto link, work is under way to upgrade the E78 to four lanes .

The work specifically concerns a section of about 11.8 kilometers and affects the municipalities of Sovicille, Murlo and Monticiano.

The work, for a total investment of 195 million euros, consists of upgrading the SS223 “di Paganico” to four lanes by building a new carriageway alongside the existing one.

Grosseto also has a civil airport (Grosseto Airport-Seam Spa), which currently serves private flights, with a very strong charter traffic of about 1,500 charter flights a year for business and tourist visits.
