The MASE has published the decree encouraging the creation and development of Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) and widespread self-consumption in Italy. The decree comes into effect Jan. 24, after registration by the Court of Auditors and approval by the European Commission. The measure stipulates that within 30 days the Ministry, with the verification of ARERA and the proposal of the Gestore dei Servizi Energetici (GSE), will approve the operating rules for the recognition of incentives. The GSE, manager of the measure, will open the portals for applications within 45 days after the rules are approved. The decree provides two modes of support: a non-repayable grant of up to 40 percent of eligible costs, financed by the NRP, aimed at communities with installations in municipalities under five thousand inhabitants, and an incentive tariff on renewable energy produced and shared throughout the country. The two benefits are cumulative, promoting the overall development of five gigawatts of renewable energy production.
