Tourism, digital and innovation: the Region of Tuscany launches nine calls for tenders for local businesses with EUR 118.8 million in grants

The Region of Tuscany has launched an important initiative to support micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) through the 2021-2027 ERDF programming, making available an impressive EUR 118.8 million divided into nine calls for proposals. These funds aim to strengthen the competitiveness of local businesses, with a focus on innovation, digital transition and support for the tourism sector.

The largest share of the resources, EUR 91 million, is earmarked for productive investments, with EUR 40 million reserved for technological innovation and ecological and digital transition. In addition, the tourism sector, which is crucial for the Tuscan economy, will receive support of EUR 11 million to foster the development and innovation of businesses operating in the sector.

Another key point of the programme is research and development, with EUR 14 million earmarked for green projects. Companies will be eligible for non-repayable grants of up to 90 per cent of the costs, encouraging the adoption of sustainable practices. In addition, EUR 11 million will be invested to support innovation and digitalisation in rural areas and villages, with a focus on Community Cooperatives and Natural Shopping Centres.

For those wishing to start a new business, EUR 2.8 million has been earmarked to support innovative start-ups. This funding will cover up to 90 per cent of costs, offering concrete support for the creation of new businesses that bring fresh and innovative ideas to the market.

The Region of Tuscany’s initiative aims to strengthen entrepreneurship throughout the territory, with the objective of promoting a ‘widespread Tuscany’ in which economic development is equally distributed.

All information on the calls for tenders, documents and application forms are available on the Region of Tuscany’s portal: www.regione.toscana.it/pr-fesr-2021-2027/bandi-aperti.

A city accessible to large urban areas

The city of Grosseto lies on the Rome-Livorno road axis and is connected to the large urban areas of Siena and Florence via the E78.

With regard to the Rome-Livorno axis (the so-called Tirrenica), the Italian government has announced that in 2025 work will begin on upgrading and securing one of the territory’s main road axes, with plans to upgrade, among other things, the Grosseto south-San Pietro in Palazzi section and the central section from Ansedonia to Grosseto.

As for the Siena-Grosseto link, work is under way to upgrade the E78 to four lanes .

The work specifically concerns a section of about 11.8 kilometers and affects the municipalities of Sovicille, Murlo and Monticiano.

The work, for a total investment of 195 million euros, consists of upgrading the SS223 “di Paganico” to four lanes by building a new carriageway alongside the existing one.

Grosseto also has a civil airport (Grosseto Airport-Seam Spa), which currently serves private flights, with a very strong charter traffic of about 1,500 charter flights a year for business and tourist visits.
